Speaker A:Journey together towards joy, peace and purpose.
Speaker A:Hey friends, we are going to talk about what is the growth that you want to see in your life as we step in to spring.
Speaker A:Now, for many of us, we live in parts of the world where maybe it's already gotten warmer to some extent and the days are obviously getting a bit longer for many of us.
Speaker A:But actual spring starts this week with a spring equinox.
Speaker A:And with spring, as we've already been seeing, there are buds on flowers and trees.
Speaker A:There are flowers blooming right those early flowers we can see the sign of life going from the dead of winter when things fell off or when things hibernated and it seemed kind of dreary.
Speaker A:And now we see buds and blooms and greenery strength starting to show again, light for longer each day.
Speaker A:It is just a glorious and lovely time of year.
Speaker A:And it's also the perfect time of year to set some intentions for the growth that you want in your life.
Speaker A:January is a time of year where somebody, some people make intentions, resolutions, but it's actually such a dark time of year that most of us actually don't feel that motivated to go out in the cold, the dark, when we may be getting off of work.
Speaker A:But now when winter turns to spring, when animals start mating, when the flowers are coming out, when the days are longer, it's actually a time when our energy goes up.
Speaker A:It's a time when we actually can be outside more and longer, whether that's before or after if we work in a traditional job.
Speaker A:And so today's episode is going to be all about setting intentions and what growth, what way you'd like to expand in your own life in the coming months.
Speaker A:And I would actually say that this is a great time.
Speaker A:You know, these three months between the beginning of spring and summer, if you want to say kind of a quarter, even though it might not be the yearly quarters, but it's the perfect time because for many of us in summer, we may have vacations planned, it may be busy because family's coming to visit, whatever it might be.
Speaker A:So this is the perfect lead up to summer to get some things done and like I said, set some intentions, set some goals for ourselves and to really be renewed and refreshed.
Speaker A:And so we're going to talk about several ways that we can do that and really use spring to our advantage.
Speaker A:Okay, so what I like to do is set three to four intentions for my personal life, and then I also set two to three goals or intentions for my business slash podcasts.
Speaker A:Okay, so here are some of the questions that I ask.
Speaker A:And I have a whole list of questions.
Speaker A:So there's different times where I pull different questions for setting intentions or sort of what direction do I want to set off on or do I want to change this spring?
Speaker A:So here are some of the questions I ask that you can grab a pen and paper and write these down, type them in your notes, or you can think about these and come up with your own question to determine what it is that you want to focus on as we step into these beautiful spring days.
Speaker A:First question I ask myself is, where do I want to grow this spring?
Speaker A:In other words, where do I want to stretch myself, learn more about or expand my knowledge, or the time I spend on something?
Speaker A:Okay, so for that one, the things that I've written down are I want to grow in God's Word.
Speaker A:So I want to keep spending more time in scripture and devotionals, and right now is actually Lent.
Speaker A:And so I'm trying to use that time to listen to more podcasts, sermons, and different apps that just get me in God's word thinking about spending the time in prayer.
Speaker A:Prayer.
Speaker A:So that's one of the ways that I want to grow.
Speaker A:The second one is, you know, spring is the time that many of us start gardening.
Speaker A:And maybe you're not a gardener.
Speaker A:Maybe you are.
Speaker A:This is the time that we start planting seeds.
Speaker A:You know, we start seedlings, or maybe we even put some seeds outside.
Speaker A:So I'm.
Speaker A:I've prepped all my outdoor garden beds.
Speaker A:I've started seedlings, but I want to become a better gardener.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And so I have some of the basics down.
Speaker A:I've had an herb garden for many, many, many years, but vegetables have been hot and cold for me.
Speaker A:Some vegetables I've done great with, but other ones tend to have.
Speaker A:They're more challenging because there's different pests that really like to come and attack them or different issues that they can have.
Speaker A:And so I have certain vegetables that I'd really like to get better at this year, whether that's knowing how to keep the pest away.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Obviously, in the acorn, I am a use organic methods or how to make sure my plants don't get a rot or attacked by something.
Speaker A:So those are two of the areas that I want to grow in.
Speaker A:I want to stretch myself.
Speaker A:And so I'm being intentional because I'm making more time in the morning to get in God's word, to have more quiet time to be in prayer.
Speaker A:And then with the gardening, I am making sure that I'm spending a little bit of time working in the gardens or caring for the seedlings, and also just starting to learn a little bit about some of the challenges I had last year.
Speaker A:Okay, so that is the first question I ask myself, and those are some of the ways that I want to grow and expand and learn more.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:The next question I ask myself is, where do I want to commit more time and effort in my life?
Speaker A:In other words, where do I want to put.
Speaker A:Where do I want to.
Speaker A:What do I want to highlight and make sure that I'm being intentional in some area?
Speaker A:For me, one of the areas is movement.
Speaker A:And so if we're being honest, in the winter, some of us, we want to kind of lounge more.
Speaker A:We.
Speaker A:You don't want to be outdoors as much.
Speaker A:It's cold.
Speaker A:It's not as fun taking a walk, you know, because it's cold weather, you have to bundle up.
Speaker A:And then also it's dark earlier.
Speaker A:And so all winter, I wasn't able to walk with any friends, except for maybe on weekends because it's dark by the time most people are getting off of work.
Speaker A:So movement, I'm upping my steps per day or my mileage because we we've hit spring.
Speaker A:So I did that end of February, beginning of March.
Speaker A:And so moving more, moving my body more throughout the day and getting outside more, getting fresh air, having that quiet time and just being in the presence of God in all of his creations.
Speaker A:And so for me, I want to commit to that.
Speaker A:And then the other things I want to commit to are I want to spend more time writing because to be honest, when I started the podcasts, that became my priority.
Speaker A:And I haven't spent time writing daily or even weekly.
Speaker A:So that is now on my radar for spring.
Speaker A:I also want to apply for more opportunities.
Speaker A:And when I say apply, I mean it's really submitting.
Speaker A:So reaching out to more people that could be doing collaborations, that could be submitting to speak or go to a conference or get on other podcasts, which of course I've done.
Speaker A:But I haven't really made that a priority recently.
Speaker A:So for me, that is another intention.
Speaker A:Another one is people.
Speaker A:How can I be more loving to the people in my life?
Speaker A:And how can I continue to increase my grateful in my thankful practice?
Speaker A:So I already have a gratitude practice.
Speaker A:The question is, how do I keep upping that?
Speaker A:How do I keep adding little small things that help me remember to be grateful, to be thankful, and to stay in that presence of mind?
Speaker A:Okay?
Speaker A:And so those are the things that I want to commit more time.
Speaker A:And then how can I be more loving?
Speaker A:So that's, how can I spend more time with my older sons?
Speaker A:How can I spend more quality time with my husband?
Speaker A:How can I spend more time showing my friends how much they mean to me?
Speaker A:And then how can I continue to do that for my community or maybe really step into showing my community more of that?
Speaker A:Because in some ways, there's been a lot that's happened since January.
Speaker A:We've had loss in our family and in our neighborhood, and some other things have gone on.
Speaker A:And so I've really not nurtured my email recently because it's just been a lot.
Speaker A:And then for my business, I say, what are my top two or three goals in mine are get more support for my business, prune the things that I need to stop doing, and then focus more daily on the things that are going to have the most impact in other people's lives.
Speaker A:And as we step into spring, I have two other questions that you can write down and ask yourself as well as you really think about what you want your spring months to look like, how you want to live in those months.
Speaker A:And so the first question is, how do I want to feel?
Speaker A:In other words, how do I want to feel in my home?
Speaker A:How do I want to feel in a certain room that could be in your bedroom, you know, where it's a place of, hopefully, solitude and peace, where you can rest, you know, and in whatever else you know, it might be a place for intimacy and such and such.
Speaker A:Or it might be, how do I want my office to feel?
Speaker A:How do I want quiet place in my house to feel?
Speaker A:You know, for time for meditation, for prayer, for just letting yourself decompress and have time with quiet.
Speaker A:And so when you ask yourself that question, how do I want to feel in some way?
Speaker A:So that could be, how do I want to feel when I put on outfits?
Speaker A:It could be, how do I want to feel in a certain space?
Speaker A:How do I want to feel as far as my mindset, right?
Speaker A:Like, what keeps getting me amped up or frustrated or anxious or irritated.
Speaker A:And as I find that I'm.
Speaker A:I'm dealing with some of those things, maybe what I want to write down is I want to feel calmer.
Speaker A:I want to feel happier, I want to feel more at peace.
Speaker A:And so you can do this for both, you know, your mindset and your thoughts, or you can do it for a physical space.
Speaker A:And if you write down I want my I want.
Speaker A:I want to feel that I have a quiet place to come home to.
Speaker A:You know, it can be a special chair, it can be an area in your bedroom, it can be a little desk area.
Speaker A:But basically, then what you want to do is, in the spring, how can you freshen it up?
Speaker A:How can you maybe take some things away to make it less cluttered and to feel calm?
Speaker A:If it's the thoughts, then for you, it would be, how can I feel calmer?
Speaker A:Or how can I feel more at peace?
Speaker A:And then it's asking that question.
Speaker A:And it might be, what is it that's causing that angst?
Speaker A:Or what is it that's causing you that chaos in your life?
Speaker A:And is there something you can remove?
Speaker A:Is there a thought that you have on repeat?
Speaker A:And can you test it?
Speaker A:Can you replace it with something that's more true?
Speaker A:Can you replace it with a new Perspective.
Speaker A:Okay, so that is a great question to ask any time of year, but I love it for spring because it's just this time of renewal.
Speaker A:It's a time of new growth.
Speaker A:And so for me, it's.
Speaker A:It's really just this time for those things, for growing and for expanding ourselves.
Speaker A:Okay, the last question is, who am I becoming?
Speaker A:Or who do I want to become, you know, in my future?
Speaker A:But this is a perfect time to step into in small ways that who you're becoming.
Speaker A:So, for instance, I've recently just gone in the last month, I guess, shopping and gotten some.
Speaker A:A couple new tops, some new dresses, things like that.
Speaker A:And it's really because every time I would go to put stuff on, I just felt.
Speaker A:It felt drab or I didn't feel excited to get dressed, or it felt in some ways, I don't know, maybe outdated or maybe certain things just didn't fit me well or they didn't fit me right.
Speaker A:They didn't.
Speaker A:They didn't look like me.
Speaker A:They didn't either.
Speaker A:They were the wrong.
Speaker A:Some things are the wrong colors for me.
Speaker A:Wrong shape, wrong length, because I'm not super tall person.
Speaker A:And so once again, who am I becoming?
Speaker A:Well, for me, I want to step into having more of a style that I love that I don't have to think about.
Speaker A:And so that doesn't mean I'm going to.
Speaker A:I'm currently not going to get rid of all the clothes that aren't perfect for me.
Speaker A:But one day I do hope to have a closet like that.
Speaker A:So who am I becoming?
Speaker A:I want to be the person that has outfits that I can grab and I like how I look at.
Speaker A:Look in them.
Speaker A:No matter if I'm exactly the size or, you know, shape I want to be, you know.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:I'd love my arms to be a little more.
Speaker A:Yeah, what do you call it?
Speaker A:Fit.
Speaker A:I'd like, you know, the armpit area to be smoother, the tummy to be smoother, whatever it is.
Speaker A:But, you know, I'm not becoming.
Speaker A:I want to be a person that feels good in the clothes she wears.
Speaker A:I don't want to have to think about it or try on 20 outfits and be frustrated with every one of them.
Speaker A:So who am I becoming?
Speaker A:I'm becoming someone that's putting more effort into her style.
Speaker A:Because if I do that now, when I go to get ready for an event or somewhere, I'm going, I feel good in the doing it instead of waiting until the last minute and thinking, none of this is working.
Speaker A:Who else am I becoming.
Speaker A:I'm becoming the person that shows up in the room.
Speaker A:I'm showing up in more rooms.
Speaker A:I am going to be the person that takes more trips this year.
Speaker A:So guess what I'm doing?
Speaker A:I'm figuring out when those things are going to happen.
Speaker A:What events do I want to be in the room at?
Speaker A:I am figuring out, who else do I want to have on the podcast?
Speaker A:Am I making bold asks?
Speaker A:I want to become the person that asks for the bigger names to come on the podcasts.
Speaker A:So that is who I'm becoming.
Speaker A:But if I know who I want to become, I can start taking action to become that person.
Speaker A:In other words, just because of what I did today or I did yesterday or last year doesn't define, right, how we're going to be tomorrow, next week, or next year.
Speaker A:But we have to be intentional about who do we want to become?
Speaker A:If you want to become healthier, you don't get healthier by staying the same as you were if you weren't healthy.
Speaker A:In other words, if you want to be healthier, you want to be able to be stronger and feel good in what you wear, but also know that your health numbers are good, then you need to start acting like a healthy person, right?
Speaker A:So make better choices with, you know, move a little more, eat a little, make a few better food choices every day, forego the extra dessert on occasion, that sort of thing.
Speaker A:Also, I want to become the person that always has beautiful things around me.
Speaker A:And for me, one of those things is flowers.
Speaker A:So this year, I'm planting a lot more flowers in my garden beds or pots so that I can clip some of those and bring them inside.
Speaker A:Also, I am saying yes to myself to buy flowers when I'm at the store most every week, to put in my kitchen and in my front room and sometimes in my office, because they make me happy.
Speaker A:The colors, the smell, they just make the spaces I'm in regularly more inviting and more beautiful.
Speaker A:And so who I'm becoming is somebody that says yes to spending a little bit of more money on the things I enjoy that make me happy when I see them.
Speaker A:Okay, so that's the other thing.
Speaker A:So as we step into spring, I've given you a handful of questions to really reflect and think about.
Speaker A:What do you want to use spring?
Speaker A:What do you want to do in this season?
Speaker A:Because it is a beautiful time of year.
Speaker A:Everything is blooming, and why wouldn't you want to bloom as well?
Speaker A:And so that's it for today.
Speaker A:There'll be definitely a lot more episodes coming out this year after my several month hiatus and my hiatus was longer than expected.
Speaker A:My dad gotten he had Parkinson's and he had gotten sicker and sicker and I had planned to release in January, but he ended up passing away in the very beginning of February.
Speaker A:And so we've really been walking through his illness and then his loss and then we've had some loss friend in the neighborhood and some other things going on.
Speaker A:And so with running another podcast and doing other projects, I just didn't have the bandwidth to be honest with you to re release Building a life you love and so I'm back.
